First, a plug for Single Stone, L.A.:

We purchased my engagement ring and our wedding bands from Single Stone in Downtown L.A.  They have ready to purchase jewelry, vintage and new, plus they do amazing custom work.  The staff is pleasant and helpful.  They remembered us every time we walked in.  Sometimes they were able to identify us when we called before we gave our name.  They really make an effort to help you find the jewelry of your dreams and make you feel at home.  They work with your schedule and won’t move ahead with the next step on anything until they are sure that you love the current step.  My Jeweler is Ari and I highly, highly recommend him if you are engagement or wedding ring shopping.  You won’t be disappointed.

When we were engagement ring shopping, I told Ari what I wanted: thin band, artful prongs, white gold, garnet.  He went to the back, pulled out two vintage rings that fit that description.  He showed me one, I liked it.  He showed me the second, I fell in love.  The original had a citrine.  I wanted to just replace it with a garnet.  Instead of just saying whatever you want, Ari told me that the ring was so old that it might damage the prongs to replace the stone and that the band was actually too thin and would warp, if not break, from daily wear.  So, we set upon custom making my engagement ring.  First, he replicated the base, making it only as thick as it would absolutely need to be to last, and called me in to see if I still loved it.  Second, he ordered several garnets, and called me in to pick my favorite.  I didn’t love any of them, so he sent them back and ordered new ones.  Once again, he called me in to pick my favorite.  Third, he cut the garnet, and called me in to see if I still loved it.  Finally, he set it, and called me to see if I still loved it.  Of course I loved it!  And, wore it home.  I was involved every step of the way and wound up with a ring that I adore.

My wedding band is a vintage ring from Single Stone.  We kept it exactly as it was.  It even fit perfectly on my tiny size 4-1/2 ring finger.  What a sign.

My husband’s ring is another of Ari’s creations.  The yellow gold band in the center is my husband’s late father’s wedding band.  This is sandwiched between two platinum bands that are shaped to match the band on my engagement ring.  Then, the edges were etched to match the edges of my wedding band.  It turned out amazing.

Together, they make a perfect, well-loved set.

Anyways, that’s enough of that.  Here are some shots of our rings.

The rings with the invitation.

The simple packaging.

Here you can see my little band and my engagement ring. My husband's mother had just flown his ring in, so it hadn't been custom-made for him yet. There will be photos of his completed band at the end of this post.

Another shot of our rings. Notice the teeth-like prongs on my ring? Fun, right?

Erez’s ring was completed later.  Here is how it turned out.

"Yay! I finally get to wear my ring again!"

The yellow gold band was his father's wedding band. The platinum bands match the band on my engagement ring.

The wave etching on the edge of his ring matches the etching on the edge of my wedding band.
